Crop & Mirror
Crop & Mirror is a Godot editor plugin that crops a region from an image and exports it as a PNG. With mirroring enabled, a single corner can be expanded into a full symmetric image, such as a dialog box or UI frame. With mirroring disabled, it works as a simple crop tool.
Instead of drawing a whole frame by hand, draw one corner, mirror it, and export. The result stays perfectly symmetric.
Features
- Region selection: Drag on a zoomable, pannable canvas, resize with edge handles, or type exact X, Y, Width and Height values.
- Mirroring: Mirror horizontally, vertically, or both.
- Source corner: Tell the plugin which corner of the final image your selection represents (top-left, top-right, bottom-left or bottom-right).
- Adjustable overlap: Set how many pixels (0-32) the mirrored halves overlap in the center, independently for each axis.
- Live preview: See the mirrored result and its final output size before exporting.
- Flexible export: Save a PNG next to the source image (
<name>_full.pngby default) or to anyres://path. Missing folders are created and the editor reimports the file automatically. - Easy loading: Use a file dialog or drag an image from the FileSystem dock onto the canvas or preview. Supports PNG, WebP, JPG, JPEG, BMP and SVG.
- Bilingual UI: English and Korean, switchable at any time. The choice is remembered per project.
Installation
- Copy the
addons/crop_and_mirrorfolder into your project'sres://addons/folder. - Open Project > Project Settings > Plugins and enable Crop & Mirror.
- Open the Crop & Mirror panel at the bottom of the editor.
Quick start
- Click Load Image and choose a source image (or drag one in from the FileSystem dock).
- Drag on the left canvas to select the region you want to use.
- Set Source Corner to the corner of the final image that the selection represents.
- Toggle Mirror H and Mirror V and check the Live Preview.
- Check the Output Path and click Export.
Example: for the top-left corner of a dialog box, select that region, set the source corner to Top-Left, and enable both mirror options. To crop without mirroring, turn both options off.
Canvas controls
| Input | Action |
|---|---|
| Left mouse drag | Select a new region |
| Left mouse drag on a red handle | Resize the selection on that edge |
| Right mouse drag | Pan the canvas |
| Mouse wheel | Zoom around the cursor |
Output size
With a selection of W x H pixels and both mirror options enabled, the output is (2W - horizontal overlap) x (2H - vertical overlap).
For example, a 64 x 32 region produces a 128 x 64 image with no overlap, or 126 x 64 with a horizontal overlap of 2.
Good to know
- The output format is PNG. A
.pngextension is added automatically if missing. - The output path cannot be the same as the source image. An existing file at a different path is overwritten.
- Overlap is limited to at least 1 pixel less than the selection size on that axis. Overlapping pixels are overwritten by the mirrored copy drawn later.
- The language setting only affects this plugin, not the whole Godot editor.
Compatibility
- Godot 4.7
- Written in GDScript with no external dependencies.
