Six complete skyboxes, free, ready to drop into any Godot 4 project.
Three space skies (a teal and magenta nebula, a ringed gas giant, a supernova remnant) and three outdoor skies (golden hour, thunderstorm, moonlit night). Each is a full 360 degree environment with no seams and no pinching at the poles: the skies are rendered as a function of the view direction on the sphere, not painted on a flat image.
What you get, under addons/skybox_sampler/:
- 6 equirectangular panoramas at 2048 x 1024 (PNG)
- 6 PanoramaSkyMaterial resources (skies/)
- 6 Environment resources with the sky as background, ambient light and reflections (environments/)
- A demo scene: a slowly rotating camera; Left/Right cycles through the skies
- README and license
Use: add a WorldEnvironment node and set its Environment to one of the environments/.tres files. Or use the skies/.tres material in your own Environment. No plugin to enable; it is a plain asset pack.
Tested in Godot 4.5 with the Forward+, Mobile and Compatibility renderers.
License: royalty-free for commercial and non-commercial games, apps and videos, no attribution required. You may modify the images for your own projects; you may not resell or redistribute them as assets. Full text in LICENSE.md.
More skies: these six are the free samplers of three paid packs by the same publisher on itch.io, which add the remaining skies at 4096 x 2048 with 1024 px cube faces and Unity-ready cubemaps:
- Space Skyboxes: 20 Stylized Skies - https://the-knightshift.itch.io/space-skyboxes
- Stylized Sky Skyboxes: 16 Day, Sunset, Night and Storm Skies - https://the-knightshift.itch.io/stylized-skyboxes
- Alien Worlds Skyboxes: 16 Exoplanet Skies - https://the-knightshift.itch.io/alien-skyboxes
Made with AI assistance: the skies are painted by code that an AI wrote, then checked by eye and by numeric seam checks.
